Antique, Agate Cameo Brooch

An antique cameo brooch. Depicting a woman in classical dress pouring a jug of water, possibly depicting the Zodiac sign Aquarius. The cameo is claw set in a yellow gold border, decorated with black enamel stripes. Its further surrounded by eight round white pearls, and decorated with old cut diamonds.

This brooch is in beautiful condition, and is wonderfully carved. The cameo itself has a pinky-lavender hue to it, although it is carved from a classic white and orange agate. The craftsman has skilfully left a thin layer of white agate over the orange to give this brooch a distinctive colouring. The cameo could depict Aquarius, the water bearer, who represents the bringing of truth and pure intentions.

Era: Napoleonic.
